The museum of Sodankylä presents the life of the rural population Sodankyläs at the beginning of the 20th Century and consists of a complex of 13 historic buildings near the
community center. The main building is the farmhouse Kuukkeli, built in 1906. It originally came from the village Riesto, which was set under water after the construction of the dam Lokka and it was transferred in 1962 on the museum grounds.
In addition the museum complex includes several outbuildings, a smoke sauna and parts of a reindeer fence. The oldest exhibit of local history museum is a 700-year-old ski.
