Radtour zum Nordkapp

A mix of everything. I saw remaining spots of (artificial) snow at the ski resort of Levi. First it was rainy, then the skies cleared. Later again a very menacing sky together with sunshine and a beautiful rainbow. Only little wind and still cold.

Dangerous, narrow road from Kittilä to Levi. For the first time in Finland I felt uncomfortable in the relatively dense traffic. They were building a bike lane. From Levi all the way to Pokka I cycled almost 60 km on a gravel road. It was not really bad, but the good track was quite narrow and with many holes to avoid. In terms of road conditions one of the most challenging stages of them all.

The first day of the two-day-stretch from Kittilä to Inari. The stage goal was uncertain. Most likely a nature spot near something called Naatsukka Aapa, where I could pitch my tent. It turned out a lot better. But the road there was strenuous! Saw the ski resort of Levi. Tried to feel the special Alpine atmosphere, they tried to create up here in Northern Finland. The ski here until the month of May. But now it was dead. Here I had lunch outside the tourist information. After Levi som serious climbs and a bad road. I had a pizza in Rauduskylä, where the host booked a cabin for me on the phone in Pokka, about 50 km further down the road, as he knew the host of Tieva Baari there. That was my luck! Between these two villages nothing but an endless forest. Excellent cabin, but without tap water, but I had a bucket full brought in. The best saunatrip of the whole tour in a genuine Finnish logfired sauna with a bath in a small lake. Made a pasta dish with salmon in the cabin. Probably one of the best meals in terms of enjoyment!
