Auf den Grundstücken der Gutshöfe Svētciems und Vecsalaca ist ein Dorf entstanden, dass 1928 das Stadtrecht erhielt. Der Schwerpunkt des Museums von Salacgrīva liegt bei der Küstenfischerei und den Fischern von Vidzeme und der Salaca, aber es werden auch bedeutende Ereignisse, Fakten und Persönlichkeiten in Erinnerung behalten.
