Cycle Tour Bike holiday along the upper Rhine 2015

Very hot and sunny with a few thin clouds.

Bike paths along roads and in a separated track from the camp site in Durlach to Karsruhe central station. Train ride to Mainz. In Mainz mostly wheeled the bikes in the city centre. From Mainz to Wiesbaden mostly on bike lanes along city roads, but also on minor and middle sized streets in the cities without a bike lane.

Quiet morning in Karlsruhe, a bit early because of a train departure to Mainz. At Mainz central station we intend to take a commuter train to the suburb of Marienborn in order to participate in a guided tour of the second German television station ZDF, but the train is very much delayed, so we can't make it for the guided tour, which I succeed in postponing to the next day. In stead we have a look at the city centre of Mainz and the splendid cathedral. In addition Simon's watching the Tour at a café. We have small problems in going down to the Rhine as we end up on a car park above the river, but a lift takes ud down. Across the Rhine and into Wiesbaden, steeply ascending to Platter street, where we are welcomed by Simon's aunt Mariane and her husband Volker. It's a very pleasant evening chatting, eating and drinking beer.
