Travel report
Originally we wanted to go by train to Perpignan that day. But this was not possible because the SNCF was on strike.
Instead, we extensively looked at the sights in Narbonne.
We started in the morning with the market hall. As in almost every major market hall in France, it is a pleasure to look at the wide range of products on offer. The offer of fish, meat and poultry, cheese and fruits and vegetables is a sight for sore eyes. Between that at additional stalls drinks and small dishes are offered for immediate consumption.

In the same district "Le Bourg" we visited the Basilica Saint-Paul, one of the oldest Gothic churches in southern France. As we sat inside on one of the benches, two rows behind us a piece of plaster fell from the ceiling.

Back to the district of "Cité" we went accross the Pont des Marchands, over which the Roman Via Domitia already passed more than 2,000 years ago. We stood directly in front of the former palace of the archbishop. In front of the Place de la Hôtel de Ville, an excavated piece of Via Domitia can be visited.

We first went to the Cathédrale Saint-Just et Saint-Pasteur. The unfinished Cathédrale, of which essentially only the choir room could be completed, has one of the highest vaults in France having more than 40 meters.

The Cathédrale is also beautiful to see from the Donjon, which is also about 41 meters high, and from where there is also a beautiful panoramic view of the city and the surrounding countryside.
The old and the new bishop's palace houses museums. Visiting these museums also gives you insights into the castle's architecture and partly into the design of the rooms.

Also interesting was the visit to the Horreum, an underground Roman vaulted complex that was probably a warehouse.
