Properties
I followed the fiord path (signposted as route No. 40) out of Roskilde on bike lanes along the main road, later on minor roads or bike paths running separately. In Frederiksvaerk I changed onto a seemingly unnamed and unnumbered route to Tisvilde. The last part of the day I spent on the northcoastal route, No. 47.
Slope Gradient Distribution
Remarks
Route No. 40 on two occasions crosses the busy road Frederikssundsvej between the towns of Frederikssund and Frederiksvaerk, south of Havelse mill and before the detour through Oelsted Sydstrand. Dangerous crossings!
Travel report

The Kattegat south tour was last year amended to a Around Zealand tour, as the coronavirus situation made a visit to Sweden impossible. Kattegat is the part of the Baltic Sea situated between Zealand to the south, Sweden to the east, Jutland to the west and the Skagerrak as part of the North Sea to the north. Then the tent site at Nakkehoved near the northern tip of Zealand had been my second stage goal. This time it was the first, as I stayed in the train from Funen for a longer distance, until Roskilde. Then I had mounted my bike in Korsoer.

I enjoyed very much to venture out on the first bike holiday of the year. All of the winter and spring I had made several one-day bike trips. That was partly because the gyms were closed due to the corona lockdown, so I had to stick to biking for work out, exactly like I love it.
Most of the times I had strapped my bike on our car and driven some naturally beautiful region in order to cycle 80-90 kilometres there. But now I looked forward to a whole week of cycling and life in the wilderness.
My lunch packet I munched shortly after Frederikssund on a bench opposite a large meadow down to the fiord of Roskilde, where many barnacle geese grazed. My coffee break took place at a beautiful and civilized place: A table and bench opposite Tibirke church with a panoramic view to a fetching inlet behind a thatched peasant house.

The tent site at Nakkehoved is placed in a big cauldron under steep slopes with a nice view across the Sound and thus is lovely sheltered, as long as the wind doesn't blow from the north, as i experienced last year. Even a lot of it and very cold. But now it was peaceful.
The big tent site was occupied, so I wheeled my bike along to a small site even closer to the sea. Here I pitched my tent and lived the free camping life thanks to my shopping in Gilleleje and the water i had brought along.
I did not succeed in lighting a bonfire, as the wood was to wet, but I did enjoy the view towards Kullen in Sweden, where I was due to arrive the following evening. The sweeping light from the lighthouse shone brightly. Well, of course, as it marks the beginning of the Sound, one of the world's most busy waters. Out here it is still very wide. Like a funnel, where Elsinore and Helsingborg lie on its narrowest part.
