Travel report

At the hotel, we received a continental breakfast, albeit with a more extensive selection of sweet treats.
We had booked day tickets online for the trip to and in Venice. The vouchers were easily converted into tickets at the vending machine at the bus station in Mestre Centro. The journey from Mestre to the bus station at Piazzale Roma took only a good 20 minutes.
From the bus station, we first strolled through the alleys of San Polo to the Rialto Bridge. Without a pre-planned route through the district's many alleys, it's easy to get lost.
We reached the Mercato di Rialto, with its diverse selection of fish, vegetables, and fruit, just in time before the market closed.

From San Zaccaria, we took a water taxi to San Giorgio. From there, we enjoyed beautiful views of San Marco and an impressive monastery complex.

Back in San Marco, we stroll north from St. Mark's Square through the shopping streets and then west to Campo Stefano.
As the rain begins, we take the water taxi from the Ponte dell'Accdemia across the Grand Canal to Piazzale Roma. At the Rialto Bridge, the canal is briefly closed for a fire department diving operation.
