Travel report

We cycle out of Bassano for a good quarter of an hour, mostly through residential streets. We continue on secondary roads through a sparsely built-up area. Cars are rare here.
In Pagnano, the climb to Asolo begins. We climb almost 120 meters in elevation over 1.7 km, averaging almost 7%. The cobbled road is narrow in the old town center. Directly behind the small Piazza Gabriele D'Annunzio is the entrance to the castle. Behind the castle is the Belvedere della Specola viewpoint, from which you have a beautiful view over the town and down to the plain.

Shortly after leaving the village, there's a short climb, then we cycle past the small village of San Martino on a narrow road with many curves along the hillside. A little later, we roll downhill and reach the SP84 near Crespignaga. There's no cycle path on this road, but the few cars aren't a problem.
Near Maser, we pass Villa Barbaro, where the traditional regional cherry exhibition is taking place. The mayor is speaking in the square in front of the villa, and a band is playing.
From Maser to Cornuda, we continue on the SP84 and continue on secondary and main roads to Pederiva. Traffic is mostly light.
Near Pederiva, the Stradone del Bosco begins. Along the narrow Canale del Bosco, the road, largely closed to motor traffic, leads gently downhill for about 10 kilometers to Gervesa. From here, the canal continues a little further south, and our route continues on secondary roads for five kilometers, gently up and down around Nervesa. At Nervesa, we reach the Piave River, which we cycle parallel to until we reach the bridge at Ponte della Priula. Access to the bridge is via the SS13, and the bridge itself has a narrow cycle path separated by guardrails. This path ends at the end of the bridge, and we have to continue onto the SS13 for a few meters and then turn left into the residential streets.
We continue on secondary roads and cycle paths. A newly constructed cycle path also runs alongside the SP138 to Susegana. From here, the view stretches over the vineyards up to the Castello di San Salvatore.

From Susegana, we cycle along secondary roads, some with bike paths or lanes, some without, to Conegliano. We cycle through the town's one-way streets into the old town. On Via XX Settembre, we find a café at Piazza Cima and take a break.
We lack the motivation to cycle up to the castle. The route out of town is a bit confusing. There are no signs, and the lanes take an unexpected route.
On the SP103, we cycle into the vineyards around Ogliano, which is about 100 meters higher than Conegliano. Across the vineyards, our gaze sweeps down to the plain. We stay in the hills for four kilometers, then roll down to Carpesica. From there, we reach San Giacomo via a secondary road.

A narrow cycle path leads north along the Fiume Meschio until just before Serravalle. In the town, we finally have to climb Via Roma, which climbs 20 meters on a bumpy surface before turning into the driveway to our accommodation just beyond the Porta San Giovanni.
The bikes are stored outdoors in the walled garden, locked behind two gates.
Equipped with restaurant suggestions from our landlady, we set off in the late afternoon for a stroll through the old town center. Our route leads through some picturesque alleys and onto Piazza Flaminio. The National Choir Competition is currently taking place at the Teatro Lorenzo da Ponte. We are able to enter the auditorium during a short break and stay there for the performance of two choirs.
