Cycle Tour Veneto – Tyrol – Swabia

From the hotel, we cycle to the Hospital Church in Schwaz and cross the Inn River on a temporary bridge, which is replacing the old stone bridge during its renewal.

We cycle across the town square and then uphill to the Franciscan Monastery. Because a service was in progress, we couldn't visit the monastery church, but we could glimpse the nave from the entrance.

We descend back into the town center and reach the parish church via Franz-Josef-Straße. The left half of the four-aisled nave was the church for the bourgeoisie, the right half for the miners. This explains the two choirs, each with its own main altar.

We cross the Barbara Bridge and return to the left bank of the Inn. The cycle path runs close to the riverbank, but due to the bushes we don't see much of the water. After ten kilometers, we arrive in Wiesing.

The climb begins in the village, leading up to Lake Achensee over 4.8 km. From the church to the first crossing of the Achensee road, the gradient is 7.7%, and from there to Eben it's 11.2%. The upper section through the forest also has a compacted surface. The top three kilometers are used as a toboggan run in winter.

Just under three kilometers further on, we reach the shore of Lake Achensee. The water shimmers a turquoise blue. The lake offers a magnificent sight in this weather.

For ten kilometers, we cycle along the former lakeside road – now a well-maintained cycle and hiking path – experiencing the lake and its breathtaking scenery. Truly a fantastic experience!

At the northern end of the lake, the terrain initially slopes gently. We cycle on side roads until just past Achenkirch. After crossing the B181, the cycle path continues through the forest on a compacted surface. We pedal uphill on the forest path for fifty meters of altitude. Before reaching Achenwald, there is a steep descent on a slippery surface. Caution is advised here.

From Achenwald onwards, there is an asphalted cycle path slightly away from the main road. We can make good time here.

At the junction of the B307 and the B181, the bike path turns into the forest. After a few meters on a compacted surface, asphalt reappears. After a good two kilometers, the bike path leads away from the road and into the forest, and the surface becomes increasingly rough. After rejoining the road, we decide to continue on the B307. The traffic is no longer pleasant, but we initially roll quickly down to the Sylvenstein Reservoir. From there, it's just under two kilometers to the dam. There, we join the Isar Cycle Path.

However, the Isar Cycle Path is neither signposted nor is it a bike path. We continue on the B307 for ten kilometers until Vorderriß. Fortunately, there are mostly motorcyclists on the road, and fewer cars.

In Vorderriß, we turn onto the toll road to Wallgau. There is no toll for cyclists. The narrow road leads its way up the Isar Valley with some ups and downs. Little of the Isar's wild river landscape is visible from the road. Just past the upper tollbooth, the cycle path turns left and leads through the grounds of the Karwendel Golf & Country Club to the edge of Wallgau. From the golf course, there's a beautiful view across the valley to the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountain ranges.

From Wallgau, we cycle through the meadows to Krün, and within the village, it's just a short distance to the todays inn.
