Cycle Tour Veneto – Tyrol – Swabia

After 500 meters from the hotel, we're back on the Lech Cycle Path. Mostly on a compacted surface, we cycle more or less close to the banks of the Lech River. The sky is overcast, and the path is still damp from the night's rain.

Beyond Kaufering, we reach weir 18. A strip of bushes and trees almost always separates us from the water on the river side, while on the other side, we encounter fields and meadows, and sometimes forest. A little later, we reach weir 19.

At Scheuring, we leave the banks of the Lech and continue cycling on paved farm tracks through fields and meadows. Before Prittriching, we arrive at the Assisi Chapel. The chapel was built in 2005/06 on the southwestern edge of the village. The construction costs were covered by a donor from Prittriching.

Three kilometers past Prittriching, we reach the river again at weir 22. We cycle along the renaturalized Lochbach stream through the Lechauwald forest near Königsbrunn and shortly afterwards reach Lake Mandichosee, it is weir 23. However, the lake lies hidden behind the dike, and only at the weir itself does the view open up.

The route continues down the valley, 50 meters from the river; the river itself is not visible. At the Hochablass/Kuhsee weir, we cross the Lech River to the west and leave the river behind for good. First through a wooded area, then between the zoo and the botanical garden, we cycle towards Augsburg's old town, which we reach at the Red Gate.

From the Basilica of St. Ulrich and Afra, we cycle along Maximilianstrasse, past the Schaezlerpalais, the palatial Hotel Maximilian's, the Roeck House, and the Fugger houses to the town hall square. A little further north, we arrive at the Cathedral of the Visitation of Mary.

The route out of the city stretches for eight kilometers to the southern edge of Neusäß. There we come to a former railway line, now a well-maintained, paved cycle path. In Aystetten, we make a detour into the town center and find a café for a break. Beyond Aystetten, we continue for almost five more kilometers along the railway line, which we leave shortly before Horgau. From there, we cycle mostly on side roads down the Roth valley to Zusmarshausen.

From there to Röfingen, the cycle path runs alongside the main road, just a few meters away.

We reach our destination for today via the old Burgau road. Our hotel has a securely locked cage for our bicycles in the underground garage, and we have a nice room with a balcony.

During our evening stroll through Burgau, we discovered that Tuesday isn't a great day for choosing a restaurant. But we did manage to get dinner at a small pizzeria.
