Travel report

From the hotel, we cycle back to the Via Julia Cycle Route in Burgau. But a kilometer further on, we decide to stay on the well-paved cycle path next to the road instead of following the Via Julia onto the less well-maintained farm track. This way, we reach Remshard safely.
Beyond Remshard, we cycle through the fields to Rettenbach. The farm track has a compacted but rough surface. Already in the village, a paved cycle path begins next to the road, which we use as far as Günzburg. There, we take Augsburger Straße and then turn to the market square in the old town. We stayed overnight in Günzburg a few years ago on a tour, so we don't linger there.

After leaving the old town, we cycle alongside Heidenheimer Straße and cross the Danube bridge. At the end of the bridge, we turn right onto the access track to the Danube Cycle Path.
On the banks of the Danube, we cycle mostly along the top of the dike.
After five kilometers, we turn off over the Danube bridge for a detour to Leipheim. From the Mühlbach, we cycle uphill, past the castle, into the old town. The loop through the old town center isn't particularly scenic, however. And so we're soon back on the Danube Cycle Path on the northern bank.

We cycle through a wooded area for five kilometers until Weißingen.
After that, we continue through meadows and fields on a cycle path alongside the road. The next five kilometers beyond Unterelchingen also follow the cycle path alongside the road. In Thalfingen, we have to briefly join the village road. Then we're back on the banks of the Danube. The cycle path continues to run parallel to the road.
Only at the Ulm Exhibition Center do we turn away from the road. At the edge of the Friedrichsau park, we cycle along the Danube riverbank until the Congress Center. We cycle the last few meters to Münsterplatz alongside and on Neue Straße.
While we're sitting in a café at Münsterplatz enjoying cake and cappuccino, we receive a message from home that forces us to cut our tour short.
Two hours later we're sitting on the ICE train to Cologne. That's possible with Deutsche Bahn too!
