Das gemütliche Hirschhorn liegt im Odenwälder Neckartal und gehört noch zu Hessen. Das Burgstädtchen lädt mit seiner historischen Altstadt zur Besichtigung ein.

Die Altstadt von Hirschhorn liegt am rechten Ufer des Neckars. Ihr gegenüber liegt auf einer Flussschleife der Stadtteil Ersbach, es ist der einzige hessische Ort südlich des Neckars. Weitere Stadtteile sind Igelsbach und Langenthal.

Sehenswürdigkeiten

  • Altstadt mit Fachwerkhäusern - Die Hauptstraße ist eine gemütliche Fußgängerzone mit Fachwerkhäusern. Sehenswert sind u. a. die Fachwerkhäuser in der Klostergasse 9 - 13. Das Stadtwappen ist übrigens am westlichen Eingang der Fußgängerzone zu finden.
  • Stadtmauer - Die Altstadt besitzt eine relativ gut erhaltene Stadtbefestigung. Am Fischertor sind Hochwassermarken zu finden. 1651 drang der Neckar sogar durch die Mauerscharten in die Stadt ein. Das Mitteltor von 1391 dient heute als Kirchturm der Marktkirche. In der Mauer zum Neckar hin finden sich Mauerhäuser. Sie wurden aufgrund von Platzmangel errichtet.
  • Burg Hirschhorn - Der Schlossteil wird als Hotel genutzt. Von der Burg hat man eine schöne Aussicht auf den Neckar
  • Neckarschleuse an der Staustufe - Besonders Kinder finden die Schleusung eines Schiffs interessant.
Kirchen
  • Marktkirche - errichtet zwischen 1628 und 30. Der Kirchturm ist ein ehem. Stadttor von 1391.
  • Karmeliterkloster mit gotischer Kirche - Die Klosterkirche besitzt einen sehenswerten Hochaltar von 1765. Das Kloster ist heute kath. Pfarrzentrum.
  • Friedhofskirche St. Nazarius und Celsus- Die "Ersheimer Kapelle" wurde 1345 das erste mal erwähnt. Der Bau besitzt einen spätgotischen Chorbau von 1517. Der Glockenturm wurde Anfang des 16. Jh. abgetragen. Der Bau liegt im Stadtteil Ersheim auf der Neckarschleife (ca. 2 km von der Altstadt entfernt).
