The Ferry Hardenstein, that is also known as Ruhrtalfähre, is a passenger ferry on the Ruhr near Witten. It runs for free nearby the ruins of Hardenstein Castle 
in Witten-Heven and is therefore an touristical enrichment of the Ruhr Valley Cycle Route.
The operation takes place daily from the morning until the evening hours. 15 honorary captains and staff as well as a full-time ferryman ensure the operation.
The previous smaller ferry was replaced in summer of 2010 by a increased one that can better cope with the increasing passenger numbers. The hull was delivered in early February 2010 and was ready for operation in August. The inclusion of the ferry service has been gradual. The "Old Ferry" is now running on the Kemnade lake.
