Wetter
Yet another sunny day, however in the afternoon some light rain. In the evening dry again. Mild temperatures, however in the rain somewhat chilly. Still a light to moderat easterly breeze.
Reisebericht
I started the day by walking up the steps of the lighthouse at Niechorze. From up here the beach, which seemed to stretch along the whole of the Polish Baltic Sea coast, looked especially inviting. But I had a plan of going to Świnoujście today. A late morning rest in the fairly busy seaside resort of Trzęsacz with munching a fish bun (herring) was, however, allowed. Here I also had a look at the church ruin from the 13th century. At that time the church was built two kilometres from the coast. Today only one of its walls is left, while the remainder long ago had slid into the sea. Soon after I cycled across the river Dziwna and was now on the island of Wolin. Here it was quite hilly, and I had to manage the first serious climb of the tour. But nature was marvellously beautiful and the weather still nice. A fine spot for a coffee break outside the village of Wisełka down to a picturesque lake is also worth mentioning. Afterwards the trail got really poor, the climb was nasty and it began to rain, so it took a long time before I reached Międzyzdroje. where I admired a huge seasort hotel with a daring architecture. Shortly after I had a skinny dip at a rare Polish naturist beach. My progress through the dense coastal forest was suddenly stopped shortly before reaching Świnoujście by a fence across the trail with a 'no entry' sign. Probably it expressed Polish anxiety of espionage of a huge storage site for liquid gas under construction just behind the fence. So I had to go back and make quite a detour before being able to take the harbour ferry across the Świna to the island of Uznam/Usedom and the town centre and the campsite Relax. On the spa promenade there were still many walkers and also an open restaurant even if it was past nine. Lucky me!
