Das Schiffshebewerk Lüneburg gehört zur nördlichen der beiden Kanalstufen der Bundeswasserstraße Elbe-Seitenkanal 
. Das Hebewerk wurde 1974 als damals weltgrößtes am Fuß des Geestrandes zur Elbmarsch in Scharnebeck gebaut. Das erste Schiff passierte das Schiffshebewerk mit der Teilfreigabe des Kanals zwischen der Elbe und dem Hafen Lüneburg am 5. Dezember 1975.
Es ist durch mehrere Promenaden gut zu besichtigen und in Verbindung mit dem nahen Museum ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel. Pro Jahr besichtigen etwa 500.000 Besucher das Hebewerk.
