Remarks
Due to a return to Arendsee after 16 km of the stage, it turned out quite differently than planned. The train trip from Wittingen to Knesebeck was planned, though.
Travel report
The morning in Arendsee was complicated. First I spent a lot of time finding a good bathing spot in the lake Arendsee. An enclosed beach bath with a fence around it took all the space of the beach, but that couldn't stop my morning bath.
Next, I left my mobile on the grass by the water tap. Must have jerked it out of the back pocket of the cycling jersey without realizing it. But that meant a 32 km trip back and forth in order to retrieve it. Fortunately, the weather was again absolutely flawless. My solution was to cycle along the country road to Salzwedel and shorten today's stage that way.
In Salzwedel I treated myself to a large Italian ice cream and a bucket of coffee. The town looked tired and poorly maintained. But perhaps my own mood made it look that way. So I didn't follow the border today, but cycled almost directly to Wittingen, from where I took a local train to Knesebeck. When I arrived there, the train doors didn't work, so it was another four kilometers on the clock on top of the 100 I had already done, before I made it to the campsite by the bathing lake there.
Fortunately, the restaurant was still open, so I could have food and drinks as I pleased. All's well that ends well ...
