Travel report
Today I had planned a pleasant stage to Eisenach. The river valley did me well, because in addition to the lack of climbs and fine paths, there were many trees, so I rode along mostly in the shade in the hot weather.
Lunch I made myself on a bench in Eschwege, which also looked a very nnice town indeed, after shopping for food in a tegut shop.
I spent my afternoon break in Treffurt, whose market square was even more beautiful. Coffee and a large ice cream under the umbrellas didn't make it any worse. In Creuzburg I reckoned I deserved a beer, but no one was there to serve me one. At the bridge over the Werra, a canoe guide commanded a number of youths to set off in their canoes in the right way. He could easily have been a sergeant, for there was a military edge to his voice. And everything went smoothly under his safe guidance. Soon after, I collapsed outside a castle hotel with a bottle of beer I had bought in the local organic shop. Aaahh! It was a hot day, and I was sweating profusely, even without climbs.
In Hoerschel I cycled under a very tall and elegant motorway bridge. Here I left the official Eurovelo-13 Iron curtain route and swung towards Eisenach, where I would have a day off tomorrow on the occasion of my birthday. So I stayed for two nights at the hotel Hennesburg, a short stetch up a steep hill towards the castle Wartburg.
I cooked dinner in the room, which I did not leave all evening, even though the weather was wonderful.
