New long distance cycle route: Amsterdam-Berlin

Date: 15 Oct 2014

Two attractive European metropolises full of contrasts as start and finish.

En route a steady change from a rural idyll, small-town tranquility and big city flair.

Diversity of landscapes. A wide variety of attractions. Two climates. Two countries, two languages, a dozen dialects - but it makes the most: Enjoyable travel on two wheels. Hartelijk welkom - Willkommen!

It exists not yet official, but it has to: An international long distance cycle route between the Dutch and the German capital, over 850 kilometers to cycle.

Reinhard Niewerth has worked out and has checked this route with great commitment. His guiding principles were:

  • Routing without large deviations from a straight line, so the total distance is good to deal with in a two-week cycling holiday, and without daily "mile-crunching".
  • scenic
  • as possible away from the traffic
  • regardless of the weather good cyclable surfaces of the paths
  • inclusion of attractions
  • concrete offer of side trips to attractive destinations off the air line corridor
