Saar near Saarhölzbach

At the Saar near the Taben quarry

The ascent to the Lohmühle is done

Von Mettlach queren wir auf das linke Saarufer. Dort sind wir wieder auf dem Saar-Radweg. Vorbei am Gelände des Schlosses Saareck radeln wir den Hang hinauf zur Ludwinuskapelle. Wenig später sind wir wieder am Ufer der Saar, an dem der Radweg weiter bis Taben verläuft. Dort müssen wir steil und rutschig hinauf zur Straße und auf dieser hinüber ans andere Ufer. Die nächsten 4½ Kilometer fahren wir auf einem separaten Streifen an der B51 entlang.

An der Schleuse Serrig queren wir zurück ans linke Ufer. Jetzt sind wir wieder auf ruhigen Wegen. Für ein kurzes Stück wird der Radweg aus Naturschutzgründen auf einen schmalen Streifen verengt. Vor Saarburg müssen wir ein Stück auf der Kreisstraße radeln, treffen dabei aber auf kein Fahrzeug. Die Ruinen der Burg Saarburg ragen bereits über die Büsche am Wegesrand.

Kurz vor Saarburg sind wir wieder auf dem Radweg am Ufer unterwegs. Unterhalb der Kirche kommen wir bis zur Mündung der Leuk. Aus der Unterstadt führt eine steile Gasse hinauf durch das Laurentius-Tor in die Oberstadt. Am Buttermarkt sind alle Tische der Außengastronomie belegt. Wir suchen uns eine Bäckerei und versorgen uns mit Teilchen. Auf dem gleichen Weg radeln und schieben wir zurück zum Saarufer. Ein sehr lohnender Abstecher in einen pittoresken Altstadtkern.

Der Radweg bleibt für die nächsten Kilometer am Ufer. Bei Biebelhausen zweigt die Saar von uns unbemerkt ab. Wir radeln weiter am Kanalufer. Drei Kilometer weiter sind beide wieder zusammen.

In Konz müssen wir hinauf auf die Brücke der B51 und überqueren die Saar dort direkt an der Mündung in die Mosel.

Direkt am Moselufer radeln wir die letzten Kilometer bis Trier. Vom Mosel-Radweg gelangen wir auf sicheren innerstädtischen Radwegen bis nahe ans Hotel.

Es ist erst halb Drei und somit bleibt uns heute noch viel Zeit für die Trierer Altstadt.
