Świnoujście^?/i [ɕfinɔˈujɕʨɛ] (deutsch Swinemünde) ist eine Stadt mit etwa 41.000 Einwohnern und ein Ostseebad und staatlich anerkannter Kurort (Seeheilbad) in der Woiwodschaft Westpommern an dem Odermündungsarm Swine in die Pommersche Bucht auf den Inseln Usedom und Wollin.

Hintergrund

Swinemünde ist der westlichste Badeort an der Polnischen Ostseeküste. Das Zentrum mit Strand, Promenade und Kurpark liegt auf der Insel Usedom. Der kleinere Teil der Stadt mit dem Stadtteil Warszów befindet sich auf der Insel Wollin. Beide Stadtteile sind durch eine Fährverbindung verbunden.

Sehenswürdigkeiten

Im Stadtzentrum westlich der Swine auf der Usedomer Seite sind noch einige Gebäude aus dem 18. und 19. Jahrhundert erhalten.

⊙Historisches Rathaus: Das alte Rathaus wurde 1805-1806 nach einem Entwurf von Maner erbaut. Den Turm mit Uhr erhielt das Gebäude, das das erste Rathaus der Stadt und Sitz mehrerer Behörden war, im Jahr 1836. Von 1932 bis 1945 waren in dem Gebäude ein Regionalmuseum und die Stadtsparkasse untergebracht. Gegenwärtig dient es als Museum für Hochseefischerei.
⊙Christuskirche: Das Kirchengebäude wurde 1788–1792 nach einem Entwurf von David Gilly als erste evangelische Pfarrkirche der Stadt Swinemünde erbaut. Die Stadtkirche wurde 1881 nach einem Entwurf von Carl Schäfer vollständig neugotisch umgebaut und erhielt einen Turm und eine neue Innenausstattung. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde die Kirche nur gering beschädigt, sie diente bis 1951 der deutschen evangelischen Gemeinde. 1951 eignete sich die polnische katholische Kirche das Kirchengebäude an, gab ihr den Namen Kościół Chrystusa Króla (Christ-König-Kirche) und gestaltete die Inneneinrichtung entsprechend ihrem Ritus um. Die Kirche enthält eine imposante Orgelanlage von 1927, deren besondere Klangfülle allgemein gerühmt wird. Im Inneren hängt über dem Mittelgang in etwa drei Metern Höhe eine einige Meter langes Schiffsmodell herab, das ein Hamburger Kapitän 1814 der Kirche, in der er geheiratet hatte, schenkte.
⊙Katholische Kirche Ave Maris Stella: Neugotischer Backsteinbau, geweiht am 22. Juli 1896.
⊙Lutherkirchturm: Der restaurierte Turm der 1905-1906 im Stil der Backsteingotik nach Entwurf des Berliner Architekten Fritz Gottlieb erbauten, bei dem Luftangriff am 12. März 1945 leicht beschädigten, dann verfallenen und 1962 bis auf den ehemals 67 Meter hohen Turm abgetragenen Martin-Luther-Kirche dient heute als Aussichtsturm mit einem Rundblick über Stadt und Umgebung und als Café.
⊙Kurpark: An das Zentrum schließt sich der Kurpark mit dem Kurviertel und der Strandpromenade an.
⊙Leuchtturm: Der östlich der Swine (auf der Insel Wollin) gelegene, in preußischer Zeit im Jahre 1857 fertiggestellte Leuchtturm ist mit 68 Metern der höchste an der Ostsee.
Die gut erhaltene Befestigungsanlagen aus der Preußenzeit: ⊙Westfort, ⊙Ostfort (am Leuchtturm) und die ⊙Engelsburg - alle sind zu besichtigen mit Ausstellungen

⊙Stadtapotheke: Gegenüber der Christuskirche (heute an der ul. Marynarzy 7) befand sich einst die Stadtapotheke, die Theodor Fontanes Vater von 1827 bis 1832 geführt hatte. Zwar hat der Originalbau die Zeit nicht überstanden, doch befindet sich an der Stelle eine Gedenktafel.
Swine-Freileitungskreuzung Swinemünde : Freileitungskreuzung der Swine mit einer Spannweite von 437 Metern, welche von den höchsten Stahlrohrmasten Polens getragen wird.
